The Lux Drill Program Begins: Diamond Drilling at the La Grande Gold Project in James Bay, Quebec

Lux Metals Corp. (TSXV: LXM) has announced that diamond drilling will begin at its flagship La Grande Gold Project on August 25, 2026. According to the Company’s August 18, 2026 drill commencement announcement, the program comprises 4,500 metres of diamond drilling selected from 8,800 metres of designed holes.

The campaign targets Zone 32, the high-grade core of the La Grande Gold Project, where more than 40,000 metres of historic diamond drilling have outlined a gold system that begins at surface and remains open at depth, along strike, and laterally.

Why This James Bay Gold Drill Program Matters Now

Gold is trading above US$4,300 per ounce in mid-August 2026. Stronger gold prices have historically pulled exploration capital back toward established Canadian gold districts, and few districts combine geological endowment and infrastructure the way James Bay does.

The Lux drill program is not grassroots exploration. It drills into a system already defined by decades of work, in a district with year-round road access, inside Quebec, one of the world’s most established mining jurisdictions. For investors screening gold drill programs in Quebec this season, that combination of a defined target, existing data, and low logistical risk is the starting point for the La Grande story.

What the 2026 Lux Drill Program Includes

The drill program was designed against the full historic dataset. Lux engineered 8,800 metres of potential holes over the past year, then selected the strongest 4,500 metres for this campaign. Drilling will focus on three objectives:

  • Expanding the Zone 32 mineralized envelope down-plunge and along strike
  • Infill drilling within the known gold system
  • Testing parallel structures within the broader tonalite corridor

"Zone 32 has more than 40,000 metres of historic drilling behind it and it is still open in every direction," said Kim Quyên Nguyên, President and CEO of Lux Metals. "We spent this year designing 8,800 metres of holes against that dataset and we are now putting the best 4,500 of them in the ground."

Zone 32: The De-Risked Core of the La Grande Gold Project

Zone 32 is hosted within the La-Grande-Sud Tonalite at its structural contact with mafic volcanic rocks of the Yasinski Group. The deposit is interpreted as a shear-zone, intrusion-hosted Archean orogenic gold system, the same deposit family behind many of the most productive gold camps in the Superior Province.

Historic drilling has delineated gold mineralization extending 600 metres along strike and 350 metres at depth, beginning at surface. The June 2026 surface program reinforced the geological model: 100 rock and 55 soil samples confirmed the gold and copper association central to the Zone 32 deposit model, with highlight grab samples of 1.40 g/t gold with 1,030 ppm copper and 5.7 g/t silver, and 0.519 g/t gold with 729 ppm copper and 3.55 g/t silver.

What to Watch as Results Come In

Each of the program’s three objectives answers a different question about the system, and each gives investors something specific to watch for in the assay news flow.

Expansion holes test whether mineralization continues beyond the currently defined envelope. The reference point here is historic hole LGS12-224, which intersected 1.93 g/t gold over 37.0 metres approximately 400 metres down-plunge from the main Zone 32 envelope. Intercepts between the known envelope and that hole would materially grow the footprint of the system.

Infill holes test continuity inside the known system. Consistent grades and widths between historic holes would strengthen confidence in the geological model built from the historic drilling.

Holes into parallel structures test whether Zone 32 is one zone or the first of several. The corridor already hosts the Pari, Brèche, Mico-Milan, and Vein zones, which together form a broader coherent mineralized system within the La Grande tonalite. New mineralized structures would extend that pattern.

Beyond Zone 32: A Corridor-Scale Gold Opportunity

Zone 32’s 600 metres of defined strike sit within a property positioned along roughly 35 kilometres of the Trans-Taïga Road, between kilometres 60 and 95. The drilled core of the La Grande Gold Project, in other words, occupies a small fraction of the ground Lux controls.

The Company describes the project as holding district-scale exploration potential, and the June 2026 surface program demonstrated the gold, silver, copper, and tellurium signature of the deposit model in outcrop. The 2026 drill campaign is focused on the known core; the corridor beyond it is the longer-term story.

Gold Exploration in James Bay: A District With Infrastructure

The La Grande Gold Project sits in the Eeyou Istchee James Bay region of Quebec, one of Canada’s most active exploration districts and home to the Éléonore gold mine. Direct access via the four-season Trans-Taïga Road gives Lux year-round drilling logistics that most northern Quebec explorers cannot match.

Gold exploration in the James Bay region continues to build on decades of drilling and regional infrastructure. For a wider look at the companies active in the district, see our guide to gold exploration companies in James Bay.

What Comes Next for Lux Metals
